Susan Hone-Brookes appointed as Director of Sustainability
We are delighted to announce that Susan Hone-Brookes has joined chapmanbdsp as Director of Sustainability, enhancing the company’s reputation as a leading building services and environmental consultancy.
During a long career, Susan has devised sustainable design strategies for some the country’s leading companies and has been a passionate industry advocate for solutions that respond to the climate emergency.
Susan, who has collaborated across industry and with government to promote low-carbon and low-energy solutions, joins the company as it seeks to embed and enhance its sustainability offering.
As well as being responsible for helping ensure chapmanbdsp meets its sustainability commitments, Susan will also lead our environmental team as it helps clients transition their portfolios to net zero.
Currently, board member and Vice-President of The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, (CIBSE), Susan took a lead role in updating the institution’s Sustainability Guide L:2020, writing the Foreword to the document.
She was also on the steering group which helped formulate the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors ‘Whole life carbon assessment for the Built Environment’.
Before joining chapmanbdsp, Susan was Chief Engineer for the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), where she advised government, industry and academic institutions on transforming to adopt new technologies. While in these roles, she led the Infrastructure Industry Innovation Partnership (i3P), which successfully developed a technology road map for the construction industry, which was a key part of securing the UK’s first ‘Construction Sector Deal’.
Prior to that, she was Sustainability Engineering Leader at Laing O’Rourke, within the Engineering Excellence group, where she was responsible for key accounts, offering strategic sustainability advice and creating bespoke ‘sustainability tool kits’ for clients.
Ray Upjohn, Chief Executive Officer at chapmanbdsp, said: "We are delighted that Susan has joined us, she is very knowledgeable and influential person in the sustainability arena and perfectly aligns with our vision of raising the bar of our industry’s response to the environmental challenges ahead. Welcome onboard Susan."
Susan added: “I’m so delighted to take up this role at such a pivotal time within our industry, and across the world. Chapmanbdsp has delivered so many challenging low carbon design solutions and has such an amazing team of environmentalist and building services engineers. I feel very privileged and excited to be working with them to continue their quest to create beautiful, sustainable, places.”
