ChapmanBDSP joins mental health charity Mates in Mind

ChapmanBDSP is pleased to announce it has become a supporter of mental health charity Mates in Mind.

The charity, which aims to address poor mental health and improve wellbeing in the construction industry, provides support to employers in partnership with leading organisations such as the British Safety Council, Mind, Samaritans and Mental Health First Aid England.

Since launching last year, the charity has supported awareness and training to more than 25,000 workers and currently reaches more than 80,000 employees. It also offers employers support on creating and implementing mental health policies.

ChapmanBDSP, a building services and environmental consultancy that has delivered world-class, sustainable projects in more than 30 countries, has 240 employees spread throughout offices in London, Kent, Birmingham and the Middle East.

Ray Upjohn, chief executive of ChapmanBDSP, said: ‘We are delighted to be supporting Mates in Mind. The mental health of our team is extremely important to us going forward and we think this is an excellent addition to our wellbeing initiatives.'

A Mates in Mind spokeswoman added: ‘Welcome on board ChapmanBDSP. For many years, our industry has been shouting safety, but only whispering health.

ChapmanBDSP recognises that we need to take action and has come forward for support in building awareness and understanding of mental health in the workplace and most importantly overcome the stigma associated with it.

'We work alongside companies to help build that culture, where every employee feels comfortable to talk and confident to support. As a supporter, all employees have access to our Construction Helpline, counselling support from the National Counselling Society, and awareness training.’

The 24/7 helpline, provided by the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, advises on a range of matters including occupational health and wellbeing, support and advice for people with stress, and home worries such as divorce, tax and financial concerns.
