Kingston University, New Town House

Kingston-Uopn-Thames, Surrey

The New Town House is a 11500m2, building located in Penrhyn Road Campus in Kingston upon Thames. This new building provides the university with a net gain of up to 8,500m2 GIA. The University Building will be a landmark building that is fit-for purpose, operationally efficient, easily maintained and inherently flexible. Standardisation of services, products and finishes across the building is a priority.

The New Town House will act as a ‘welcome’ point for Kingston University and will provide learning services, resources and open, flexible project spaces for all students and staff. It will facilitate participation in a variety of learning communities and networks.

The overall shape of the building maximises use of natural light, with the ability to control as necessary. Floor-plate depth and shape will maximise use of floor area, provide contiguous space to allow facilities to flex in size without major re-configuration. The building will maximise potential for ground level access and make a major contribution to Kingston’s civic townscape.

Facilities located on uppermost levels will seek to maximise rooftop views over Kingston town. The building incorporates innovative environmental and engineering strategies and become a “hall of ideas” for the whole community.
